Handicap Accessibile Activities
At Visit Indian River County, we realize that it is not always easy planning a trip when you are unaware of the amenities that it may offer. Therefore, we have created this page in hopes of making your planning a little easier. We have highlighted some of Indian River County’s most accessible businesses that provide no restrictions.
Owned by singer Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio, this upscale beachfront hotel is within walking distance of the shops, restaurants, and bars of Vero Beach. Costa is also known to have great amenities for their ADA accessible guest. From beach wheelchairs for hotel guests to use/access the beach to oceanfront guestrooms, they have you covered. Environmental Learning Center
The Environmental Learning Center has pontoon boat tours that are wheelchair accessible as well as all-terrain wheelchairs to easily access places on our 64-acre campus.
The Environmental Learning Center’s mission is to educate, inspire, and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being. With their pontoon boat now being easily accessible, we are carrying out our mission to reach all people. In addition to the ELC’s wheelchair ramp, they also have all-terrain wheelchairs for those who would like to explore the campus and admire the natural world around them. McKee Botanical Gardens
The entire garden is wheelchair accessible (Please note: right now they are not lending them out due to COVID-19, but if they have, they own a wheelchair, we are entirely wheelchair accessible).
It is the policy of McKee Botanical Garden to comply with all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please contact Kim Russell at least one week prior to your visit to arrange for sign language interpreters available Tuesday-Friday. Indian River County and its transit operator, the Senior Resource Association, are committed to providing our residents and visitors with valued transportation services. Our services extend to customers with special needs due to age or disabilities. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), all GoLine buses are wheelchair accessible and our bus operators provide assistance upon request.
In addition to the GoLine fixed-route service, Community Coach door-to-door service is available for persons with a physical, cognitive, emotional, visual, or other disability that functionally prevents them from using the fixed-route service. To qualify, each applicant must go through an eligibility determination process. To find out more of what they have to offer, CLICK HERE.
EVENTS AROUND THE COMMUNITY
Due to COVID, programming is rapidly adjusting daily but with that said we have added options that make accessibility perfect for everyone. A couple of events to be aware of are: North County Aquatic Center has a handicap lift in and out of the pool. Gifford Aquatic Center has zero-entry into their pool which makes accessibility for the handicapped much easier. There is also an Aquatic Class called “Aqua Fit” Water Aerobics.
Stretch and Flex with Judy at the iG:
(A lot of this class can be done from a chair)
Coloring and Coffee at the iG:
For BIG Kids (65+) at the iG Center
This is great fun for most everyone too and it’s FREE!
We have just added some VIRTUAL Programming such as Pumped Up Pictionary and Jumpin Jenga Thursdays. All Played via Zoom.
