10:00 am: Visit the Gifford Historical Museum and Cultural Center
The Gifford Community Cultural & Resource Center transformed the Historic Macedonia Church, Built-in 1908 by black railroad laborers. The museum now serves as a Cultural Center for the community. Permanent collections and special Exhibitions include local artists, such as six original Florida Highwaymen, a Black History Library, Children’s Library, African artifacts, and much more from Gifford pioneers and notables throughout Indian River County. 1:00 pm: Dive into the Mel Fisher’s Treasure Museum & Gift Shop
In December of 1992, world-famous treasure hunter, Mel Fisher, opened a permanent museum in Sebastian, Florida. Mel started his full-time treasure hunting career in Vero Beach when he moved there with his wife Dolores and their family, from California in 1963. Mel spent the next 7 years successfully salvaging the 1715 Fleet, a fleet of sunken treasure-laden ships, which sank off the coastline which is why the surrounding area got the name, “Florida’s Treasure Coast”.
