- Early History: As many people know, Florida was not one of the original U.S. colonies, nor was it even part of the Louisiana Purchase. Long before there were any exorbitant seaside resorts, Florida was actually obtained by Secretary of State John Quincy Adams in 1819 as part of the Florida Purchase Treaty. A couple years later the state was organized and the area of Indian River County first became part of what was known as St. Johns County. After numerous changes, Indian River County was created in 1925.
- Socioeconomic: Indian River County is fortunate to be one of the nation’s wealthiest regions. In fact, according to Wikipedia, it is Florida’s seventh richest county and the country’s 87th richest (2000 census statistics). The area’s many seaside resorts and hotel suites attract people from all backgrounds, giving it that classic All-American beach town vibe.
- Public Transportation: Indian County River is home to three airports, a Goline bus system that transports locals and tourists up and down the coast, and plans are in place for an Amtrak station in Vero Beach.
