New Restaurants In Indian River County – Part 1

I always get excited when I hear about new restaurants opening in Indian River County! New mom & pop restaurants are the lifeblood of our local economy, and a lot, if not all of that money ends up staying in our community. By dining at the large national chains, you are likely helping a CEO get a new boat or vacation home. When you dine local, you are supporting a family to keep a roof over their heads and shoes on their kids’ feet. There have been so many new places that opened recently, I’ve decided to split this article into 2 parts. Check out part 1 below and stay tuned next month for part 2!

Now let’s dive right in and check out these new places and see what I had to eat!

Amuse Bouche Crepe Cafe – Vero Beach, FL

Located in the walk-up window attached to The Islander Inn on Ocean Drive is Vero’s newest creperie. Owner, Chris Mignolet, took a trip to Paris to visit his uncle about 16 years ago and found a small creperie where the owner would just make crepes all day. He ate there all the time and fell in love with the food & concept. He grew up in Vero just down the street from the Islander Inn and always thought that if the walk-up window space ever became available, it would be the perfect place to open his own creperie. Amuse Bouche Crepe Cafe offers both sweet & savory crepes, Belgian style waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and several drink options to choose from.

El Saussie – Vero Beach, FL

If you’re local and the name sounds familiar, you may be thinking of the food truck Saussie Pig. Owner, Tashiema “Beemer” Brown (Saussie Pig Food Truck Owner) and Pedro Gutierrez decided to team up and open this new brick & mortar restaurant. They are located off of 20th Street and 43rd Ave in the previous Greedy Burger location. With Beemers experience in BBQ and burgers, and Pedro’s experience with Tacos, their new concept was born. With a diverse menu that offers, wings, nachos, tacos, burgers and more, you can definitely find something on the menu for the entire family!

Pepper & Salt BBQ – Vero Beach, FL

Central Texas BBQ is often thought to be some the best BBQ in the world. A trip to the Austin, TX area for a weeklong BBQ crawl has been on my bucket list for a long time now, but it looks as though I can postpone that trip, at least for now, because a central Texas style BBQ place just opened here in Vero Beach! Owners, John and Heather Chianis lived in Houston, TX from 2017 – 2020. During that time, John started smoking meat as a hobby, and perfecting his craft. With family ties in Vero Beach, they decided to move to the area, set roots, and open their own BBQ restaurant. So, what’s so special about this type of BBQ? The meat is slow smoked for 15+ hours and is only seasoned with salt & pepper. If you have never tried it, get in line, literally, because the food here is so good, a line forms before they even open, and with a limited capacity to only smoke so much meat per day, they run out pretty quickly.

Red Wok – Vero Beach, FL

Vero Beach has been lacking a good sit-down Chinese food restaurant since 2019, when Szechuan Palace closed. The owner and head chef has over 30 years’ experience in the restaurant industry and is very familiar with Chinese food, so hopefully this place will once and for all finally solve our lack of good Chinese food in town! Their location isn’t the easiest to find, because you don’t see them as you drive by on 21st St. I’ve heard quite a few people say that even Google Maps doesn’t get them there. They are located in the old Miss Saigon Restaurant behind Maryland Fried Chicken in Miracle Mile. You enter in the same driveway as you would if you were going to Maryland Fried Chicken but keep driving straight back and you will find it. Everything I tasted during my visit was exceptional. They offer a nice variety of Asian dishes, including a few Vietnamese specialties too, so I’m sure you can easily find something you like on their large diverse menu.
