Family Fun Guide

We have put together a fun "family fun" guide when you visit Indian River County. From traditional to eco-Friendly activities there is something for the entire family!

Vero Beach

Jetset travelers and fashionistas from Miami, Palm Beach and New York favor Vero Beach as their special eco-chic getaway. Vero’s magic secret: uncrowded and windswept beaches scattered with seashells, shorebirds, and unobstructed scenic views. Beach-goers here are often likely to encounter a loggerhead sea turtle hatchling, a ghost crab or watch as brown pelicans dive for their dinner. This quaint, friendly seaside town resides at the intersection of green and glamorous. Posh resorts, simple and sophisticated eateries, and one-of-a-kind boutique shops are just steps away from the ocean inspiring travelers to sip, shop, and stroll.

Vero Beach is like no other Florida coastal town. Hotels and resorts with rooftops no higher than swaying palm trees make the area irresistible for sun worshippers. The destination’s motto Sunrises, not High-Rises are a promise to all who visit this 26-mile beach paradise. On the barrier island you won’t see towering high-rise hotels, t-shirt shops, neon signs or chain restaurants. What you can expect when your beach chair hits the sand – plenty of Florida sunshine without the crowds. Beyond the beaches, the area is rich in eco-excursions and top-tier cultural attractions while offering a relaxed, small-town vibe that is quintessentially Vero Beach, Florida.

Downtown Vero has experienced a rebirth of restaurants, shops and art galleries and it’s fast becoming one of the hottest spots in town. Visitors can enjoy monthly gallery strolls, street festivals, green and vintage markets.

Sebastian

Sebastian, Florida, is a quaint riverfront fishing village located on the Sebastian River, with sweeping views of the Indian River Lagoon. The city offers visitors scenic walkways and over 16 city parks which are home to fabulous seafood feasts, foot-tapping music festivals and colorful arts festivals, many provide a kid-friendly focus. Indian River Drive, is a hotbed of activity and home to a variety of hotels and restaurants, inspiring tapas walks and weekend getaways.

The city of Sebastian is home to Sebastian Inlet State Park. The park provides fishing from both its Atlantic and Indian River shores; fishing jetties extend from both sides of the inlet into the ocean. Other activities include: swimming, enjoying the water views, world class surfing, camping, bird watching, boating and diving. Wildlife is abundant in the park, and the casual visitor can see ospreys and many species of shorebird. Sea turtles nest in the park, and visitors during the summer may make reservations for a nighttime tour to observe nesting turtles. The park also contains two museums: McLarty Treasure Museum and Sebastian Fishing Museum.  Sebastian also lays claim as the birthplace of America’s first national refuge, Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge as portions of the park reside in the intercostal waterways of Sebastian Inlet.
